Hi, my name is Carlo Macapinlac.
I’m the Owner and Program Director here at Newbie Fitness Academy. You can usually find me hanging out on my YouTube channel, Newbie Fitness Academy.
I’m here to show people that fat loss doesn’t have to be rocket science. That there’s a way to lose weight, get fit, and live an incredible life without going on a crazy diet.
While I talk quite the talk, I also walk the walk.

This is for the people that think they're too small to do anything. This is for the people that got picked last in gym class. This is for the people that didn't play sports in high school/college. This is for anybody who thinks that it's too late to get started on their fitness. This is for the people that's been told that they can't do it. This is for YOU. A 19 year old provincial record was broken today by some guy that's been told he's too small to do anything all his life. There's no talent here, this is hard work. You can have anything you want in life if you're willing to give up the belief that you can't have it. #earnednotgiven Oh and that celebration.. I have no words.🙈
Maybe you’re here because you’re looking for a fresh perspective on fat loss. Maybe you’re here because you’re overweight and need some motivation to get your life in order. Maybe you’re looking for fitness information you can trust.
Maybe you just want to take a no-BS approach and look great without a shirt in the process.
Look, I don’t care exactly how you got here. I’m just glad you’re here.
My ultimate goal here at Newbie Fitness Academy is to serve you with great content, and to inspire positive change in your world. You know, challenge the status quo. If my message surpasses all this fitness stuff, it’s just icing on the cake for me.
I want to show you that fitness doesn’t have to be rocket science.
I want to show you how crucial sleep is when it comes to your health and fitness (yet no one talks about it). I want to introduce you to techniques such as Starting With ‘Why’ and taking periodic breaks from eating. Things that may be foreign to you – ideas that may even stretch you.
My tagline for Newbie Fitness Academy is Fat Loss Made Easy For Busy Professionals – Lose fat, get fit, and live an incredible life without depriving yourself of your favorite foods or wasting hours at the gym.
If I do my part here as your teacher and coach, you’re going to learn why fitness doesn’t have to be hard, or boring. In fact, it should be fun, challenging, and exciting.
Your life in fitness should be something you feel good about and look forward to on a daily basis. As you may or may not know — this fitness thing is a journey.
We are all slowly, constantly improving ourselves and this is what it’s all about.
You’re the artist. Your body and health is your potter’s clay. Give it the attention it needs, be patient, focus on what you want, and good stuff happens.
You’re capable of more than you can imagine. Here’s one of my favourite quotes to drive home that point:
“Man cannot remake himself without suffering, for he is both the marble and the sculptor.” – Alexis Carrel
Why Did I Start Newbie Fitness Academy?
I was never blessed with what you would call “good” genes. I was never naturally skinny. In fact, I was the overly chubby kid growing up — never obese — but I definitely felt like the fat kid in my adolescence.
I was never the popular high school quarterback. I was never the prom king. I never hung out with the cool kids. Quite the contrary, actually. I was the guy sitting at the bleachers eating pizza and drinking pop.
Wishing and hoping that I would one day have a body like the ones that I see in fitness magazines or on TV (the wishing and hoping strategy doesn’t work by the way).
I finally stumbled my way to my local YMCA after a few weeks of my brother trying to convince me to workout. It was quite the experience. I couldn’t do a single chin up nor could I lift an empty barbell (45 lbs) to save my life.
But I was hooked.
I spent the next few years trying to figure out what works. I made 1284783742389743 mistakes along the way. I found myself in the gym all the time, and surrounded myself with a bunch of active people.
I made a ton of mistakes, read all the magazines, and fumbled through training and dieting until I found a few good resources and a mentor to guide me.
A few years later, I began to think about all the other people who were probably in my shoes, and looking for a fitness resource they could trust and get real answers from.
I always imagined I could be so much further along if I’d just had access to better information.
And that’s why this site was born.
If you’re looking for a way to get in shape, I can help. If you have a lot of fat to lose, or just want to get rid of the last 5-10 pounds, I can help there, too.
If you’ve been scrawny and weak your whole life, and just want to build a ton of muscle, you’ve come to the right place.
Remember, it’s going to take a lot of work, but nothing worth having ever comes easy. And as I mentioned above, this is a journey worth traveling.
While your goals are important, and I want you to reach them, I encourage you to enjoy the hell out of your journey, because you’ll grow mentally, as well as physically on your way to the top.
The Newbie Fitness Academy Philosophy
I’ve been at this fitness thing a while now, and while I have my preferences with training, and nutrition, please understand there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
There are many ways to skin a cat, so to speak, and just because one thing works for someone, doesn’t mean it will work equally as well for you, or anyone else.
At the end of it all, anybody can workout for one hour everyday. It's what you do with the other 23 hours of your day that will greatly determine your success. Mindset, Sleep, Nutrition, and Exercise. They all have to work in unison.
My views on training are varied, and always with the individual in mind.
I do however believe in a few key principles:
I don't believe in doing chronic cardio.
It's boring and extremely inefficient when it comest to delivering results.
Short sprints? 500m run? Sure.
Doing a 10k or a half marathon? No thanks.
I don't believe in exercise machines.
I believe that you are the machine.
I don't believe in isolation style workouts.
No curls for the girls here. I don't believe in spending a crazy amount of time working out a muscle that's the size of an orange (your bicep).
If you're looking for the best bicep or ab workout, I'm not your guy.
However, if you are looking for fun, efficient, and most importantly, fun workouts, then you've come to the right place.
There are two types of people in the world of fitness:
There are people who look fit. Then there are people who are actually fit, and therefore, end up looking fit in the process.
What good is it to have nice looking arms if you can't even scratch your back?
I believe in functional fitness. I believe that fitness should transfer seamlessly into your every day life. I believe that fitness should make you a more functional human being.
From picking up your groceries, throwing a ball with your kid (if you have one), climbing a tree to save a kitten, playing sports on weekends, all the way to saving someone from a burning building.
I believe that fitness should translate to all those things.
If you’re brand new to this whole working out thing, I recommend starting with my Newbie Fitness Academy Beginner Bodyweight Workout.
No equipment or gym membership needed! All you need is a tiny space, a little motivation, and a good attitude!

This is where it gets tricky for a lot of people.
The thing is, there's no right or wrong way to eat.
You can't just sell someone a one-size-fits-all meal plan and tell them that it's the only way to eat.
To me, that's a recipe for diet disaster because we all like certain types of food based on our heritage, upbringing, location, etc. That's why I don't believe in crazy dieting or restrictive meal plans.
I believe in the 90/10 principle where you eat whole, nutritious food (avoiding the stuff in boxes and bags) 90% of the time, and then eat whatever you want to when filling in the remaining 10%.
I believe in portion control.
I also believe in taking small breaks from eating to give your body a chance to use fat as a source of fuel. This is the only natural way to lose weight. Your body literally turns into a fat burning machine.
No one is perfect, and neither should you expect your diet to be.
I believe in focusing on progress over perfection.
At the end of the day, just remember that nothing worth having every comes easy.
